The Hotel is located in MORELIA wich is is the capital of the State of Michoacán and due to the transcendence of the events that happened here, it has played an important part in the history of Mexico. It was founded on May 18, 1541 by orders of the then Viceroy Don Antonio de Mendoza, with the name of Valladolid, and in 1580 it became headquarters of the Bishopric of Michoacán, it began to experience a bigger development, because during the XVII century the construction of imposing convents and churches, and their perfection, began. These convents and churches were home for the members of different religious order as the Franciscans, mercedarios and Augustinian among many other; it was also in this same century in which the construction of the cathedral took place, it is one of the most beautiful constructions in all of New Spain. On the main street plazas, gardens and houses inhabited by Spaniards began to be built, of which we can still appreciate their quarry facades with magnificent decorated doors or the balconies of Baroque style. Already in the XVIII century, Valladolid was surrounded of the cultured atmosphere of the century, what implied the realization of new constructions in the population's benefit, like the works promoted by the Bishop Fray Antonio de San Miguel: streets, walkways that communicated the population with the chapels and one of the best distinguishing characteristics in the city until now, the aqueduct. During the XIX century, Valladolid was witness to one of the several conspiracies that took place in the viceroyalty to be liberated of the Spanish yoke, soon after the insurgent army that was under the command of Hidalgo passed through it and it witnessed the activity of Morelos, hero from whom the city received its current name: Morelia.
